The Rwanda National Digital Payment System (RNDPS) is a core component of Rwanda’s national strategy to advance financial inclusion and reduce reliance on cash. Developed following the country’s Cashless Policy and National Payment System Framework, RNDPS provides a shared digital infrastructure for interoperable retail payments.
RNDPS supports person‑to‑person, person‑to‑merchant, and bill payments through instant, interoperable transfers, a national merchant directory, and an alias‑based addressing system using eKash IDs. The system actively leverages gender‑disaggregated data to understand inclusion outcomes and has evolved into recognized digital public infrastructure, enabling continued expansion of use cases and participation by banks, mobile money providers, and microfinance institutions.
